Pemphigus and Herpes Simplex

Antibody Response to Corticosteroids in a Patient

Sidney N. Indgin, MD; Stephen I. Katz, MD; James D. Connor, MD

Arch Dermatol. 1970;102(3):333-336.

Abstract

Pemphigus occurred in a patient who developed a generalized recurrent herpes simplex infection while being treated with very large doses of orally administered prednisone. A disparity between herpesvirus hominis antibodies, antiepithelial antibodies, and total immunoglobulins was observed. There is no good evidence showing that corticosteroids have an adverse effect on recurrent herpes simplex infection of the skin.
