Oral Patterns of Acute and Chronic Graft-v-Host Disease

Anthony P. Barrett, BDSc, LDS, PhD; A. Michael Bilous, MA, MB, BCh, FRCPA

Arch Dermatol. 1984;120(11):1461-1465.

Abstract

• Oral manifestations of graft-v-host disease (GVHD) are described in five recipients of allogeneic bone marrow transplants. It was clear that oral mucosal involvement occurred in both acute and chronic phases of the disease, and that recognizable patterns of presentation and course also occurred. The mechanisms of acute and chronic GVHD and the significance of oral mucosal and salivary gland involvement are discussed.
