Abstract
An 8-year-old boy exhibits a chronic photosensitive cutaneous disorder since the age of 3 years. A marked elevation of the free erythrocyte protoporphyrin content and of the fecal protoporphyrin excretion is demonstrated. Urinary pyrrole excretion is normal. The plasma protoporphyrin content is only mildly elevated. These features are consistent with the newly described syndrome of erythropoietic protoporphyria, although in this case the cutaneous lesion is eczema solare rather than urticaria solare as has been the case in previously reported cases.
