Hamycin— A New Antifungal Antibiotic

Abstract

Hamycin, a new polyene antifungal antibiotic produced by Streptomyces pimprina (Thirum) was used in 26 cases of skin candidiasis.

The cases were grouped according to the site of lesions.

Hamycin was applied locally in the form of glycerine suspension of 0.1% concentration twice a day.

Clinical and mycological cure was observed after two to three weeks of treatment.

No untoward side effects of any kind were observed in this series, and the drug was found to be safe.
