Recurrent Eczema Herpeticum

Widespread Cutaneous Herpes Simplex in Atopic Patient Without Active Atopic Dermatitis

CHARLES J. MAILMAN, MD; JOSE L. MIRANDA, MD; ALEXANDER SPOCK, MD

Arch Dermatol. 1964;89(6):815-818.

Abstract

A case of recurrent eczema herpeticum (recurrent disseminated cutaneous herpes simplex) is presented. The patient had a previous history of atopic dermatitis. This case is believed to be the first reported instance of disseminated cutaneous herpes simplex recurring in an atopic patient at a time when the skin was clear of active atopic dermatitis. The significance of this observation is discussed.
