Abstract
The existence of a tuberculostatic factor in normal human sera has been confirmed. In addition, this factor has also been shown to be present in the sera of patients with sarcoidosis. The degree of tuberculostatic activity in sarcoid sera, however, did not differ significantly from that found in control groups of sera from tuberculin-negative and tuberculin-positive individuals. These findings are discussed in the light of the existing evidence for a possible relationship between sarcoidosis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis as well as certain strains of the so-called atypical mycobacteria.
