Oral Enzyme Therapy in Treatment of AcneA Preliminary Report
MALCOLM C. SPENCER, MD
Arch Dermatol. 1965;92(6):688-689.
Abstract
A series of 43 patients, the majority with grade 3 or grade 4 acne received a total of 79 two-week courses of either chymotrypsin with trypsin (Chymoral) or placebo treatment combined with routine local therapy on a randomized, double-blind basis.
In this series, chymotrypsin with trypsin was significantly better (P<0.05) in improving the condition than was the placebo control.
Based on preliminary data, it would appear that a two-week course of chymotrypsin with trypsin treatment is a minimum in order to achieve successful results.
