Temporal (Giant-Cell) Arteritis Associated With Ulcerations of Scalp

SHERWOOD W. BAREFOOT, MD; HERBERT Z. LUND, MD

Arch Dermatol. 1966;93(1):79-83.

Abstract

A review of the literature reveals that skin lesions of the scalp associated with "temporal arteritis" are rare. In the past, one case of vesicular lesions, nine patients with necrosis of the scalp, and one patient with scalp ulcerations have been reported. In this report, an instance of ulcerations of the scalp is described in an 80-year-old Caucasian man who have proved "temporal arteritis." The ulceration is thought to be ischemic in origin.
