Otomycosis: An Entity

JOHN J. McGONIGLE, MD; OTIS F. JILLSON, MD

Arch Dermatol. 1967;95(1):45-46.

Abstract

Otitis externa caused by Aspergillus niger is presented as a distinctive clinical entity. This condition is characterized by severe unilateral ear pain. The inner third of the external auditory canal is filled with grayish, velvety, fungal material. The mycological findings are diagnostic, and the treatment with iodochlorhydroxyquin (Vioform) is specific. In vitro studies of various chemotherapeutic agents are included.
