Abstract
In 62 patients with hidradenitis suppurativa surveyed, four associated instances of interstitial keratitis were found. Three of the four patients with interstitial keratitis had negative serologic tests for syphilis and nonreactive Treponema pallidum immobilization or fluorescent treponemal antibody absorbtion (FTA-ABS) tests. The syphilis in the fourth patient was of the acquired type. None of the four patients with interstitial keratitis had any of the stigmata of congenital syphilis.
We believe that there should be further studies on the relationship between hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic granulomatous disease of the apocrine glands, and interstitial keratitis.
