Abstract
Clinical and immunologic studies of a patient with lifelong Candida granuloma are reported. The patient had normal endocrine function. Rigorous tests of delayed hypersensitivity revealed absence of cellular immunity associated with borderline lymphopenia during the illness. Improvement was observed after topical treatment with amphotericin B dissolved in 80% dimethyl sulfoxide compared with a cream base vehicle. Parenteral amphotericin B therapy for intercurrent Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis resulted in subsequent complete clearing of the candidosis and the patient has remained free of recurrence for 1 years. The delayed cutaneous anergy and lymphopenia has remitted.
