REPORT OF A CASE
A 41-year-old white man was admitted to the hospital with a 5-day history of multiple tender genital erosions and ulcerations, fever, arthralgias, myalgias, and weakness. He reported having a heterosexual contact 10 days previously, and he had been otherwise healthy until then. Physical examination revealed multiple 3- to 4-mm purulent erosions and ulcerations with confluent lesions on the glans penis and prepuce (Figure 1). Two tender lymph nodes, 1.5 cm in diameter, were palpated bilaterally in the inguinal regions. The patient's temperature was 38°C. Oral doxycycline therapy (100 mg twice daily) was initiated.
