Welcome to Evidence-Based Medicine

WELCOME TO the inaugural issue of the ARCHIVES devoted to evidence-based medicine. This issue contains a wide variety of articles including meta-analyses, systematic reviews, a decision analysis, evidence-based practice guidelines, interpreting clinical signs and symptoms, and external validation of a prognostic model. As with evidence-based medicine in general, the majority of original studies are meta-analyses or systematic reviews of the therapy of diseases. In this issue, you will also find a synopsis of evidence-based medicine, an editorial by Straus and Sackett1 on bringing evidence to the clinic, a description of the Cochrane Skin Group2 (a group whose members prepare systematic reviews of dermatologic topics), and an Issues in Dermatology article3 urging a greater role for evidence-based medicine in dermatology.
