EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE is the conscientious explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.1 Several books have been written about how to practice,2 teach,3 and understand4 evidence-based medicine. Evidence-based medicine articles abound in the medical literature. However, few of these articles appear in the dermatological literature and few evidence-based medicine articles address the care of patients with skin diseases.
The Archives of Dermatology will publish an issue devoted to evidence-based medicine in dermatology. We are interested in receiving manuscripts regarding evidence-based medicine as it relates to dermatology. The types of articles may include, but are not limited to, the following: systematic reviews (of therapy, diagnosis, harm, or prognosis), decision analysis, practice guidelines, outcomes analysis, searching for evidence, resources on the Internet, teaching evidence-based medicine, and evidence-based medicine publication (eg, Cochrane Collaboration, Evidence-Based Medicine, or ACP Journal Club).
