REPORT OF A CASE
A 34-year-old white man was hospitalized for multiple, asymptomatic nodules and ulcers on both lower extremities. The lesions had been present for 6 months and were becoming progressively worse. The patient had a history of hypertension, which had been treated with atenolol (50 mg/d), and a 2-year history of untreated gout.
Physical examination revealed multiple pale, reddish nodules ranging from 2 to 3 cm in diameter on the external surface of the legs, coexisting with ulcerative lesions on the malleolus (Figure 1). Palpation of the nodular lesions showed a very hard consistency. The lesions were asymptomatic and nontender. Findings of the rest of the cutaneous examination were normal.
