REPORT OF A CASE

A 56-year-old woman presented with a 15-year history of multiple, erythematous papules and nodules on her extremities and trunk. The lesions had gradually increased in size and number. The patient complained that the lesions were accompanied by frequent episodes of sudden pain and a burning sensation. Her symptoms were not relieved by analgesics. There was no family history of similar lesions.

Findings on physical examination revealed numerous tender, firm, erythematous papules and nodules scattered over the extensor aspects of her extremities and trunk (Figure 1). Gynecological examination and abdominal sonography revealed no evidence of a uterine tumor. A skin biopsy specimen was obtained from a nodular lesion (Figure 2 and Figure 3).
