Pediatric Dermatology Accomplishments and Challenges for the 21st Century

Pediatric dermatology is a typical end-of-millennium specialty. In the first three quarters of the 20th century there were isolated examples of dermatologists and pediatricians who specialized in pediatric dermatology in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. It was not until the first International Symposium of Pediatric Dermatology convened in Mexico City, Mexico, in October 1972 that pediatric dermatology was "officially born." Some of the most distinguished personalities with an interest in pediatric dermatology met at the famous San Angelin Restaurant, among them: Martin Bear (Ireland), Ferdinando Gianotti (Italy), Joan E. Hodgman (United States), Coleman Jacobson (United States), Guinter Kahn (United States), Andrew M. Margileth (United States), Edmund J. Moynahan (England), Dagoberto O. Pierini (Argentina), Ramón Ruiz-Maldonado (Mexico), Lawrence M. Solomon (United States), Eva Törok (Hungary), and Kazuya Yamamoto (Japan).
