As the president of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, I read with great interest the article in the "Issues in Dermatology" section entitled, "Is Pharmaceutical Sponsorship of a Dermatologic Conference Proper?" by H. A. Martino Neumann.1 His considerations about ethics are very relevant. In fact, ethics merit a special consideration in all fields and, very specifically, in medicine.
Customs have progressively changed in the last several decades and not always for the better. Sensitivity to ethics will progressively decrease if we are not careful. In relation to some facts encountered daily, we may ask if it is acceptable to have publicity focused on children; if it is ethical, in the name of freedom and liberty of expression, to permit, produce, and project films or television programs that idealize violence, sex, vice, and aberrations; if it is acceptable to send live transmission of war . . .
