The objective of this study was to evaluate whether recreational exposure to artificial UV radiation could increase the risk of cutaneous melanoma. Recreational sun exposure is widespread in the industrialized world because suntans are associated with leisure, holidays, and good health. Thus, the use of suntan salons and domestic tanning lamps has increased enormously in the last decades. Unfortunately, among the nonconstitutional risk factors, UV radiation is also considered the most important risk factor for cutaneous melanoma.
