Association of Sweet Syndrome and Erythema Nodosum

We have read with great interest the article by Waltz et al1 recently published in the Archives of Dermatology about the simultaneous occurrence of Sweet syndrome (SS) and erythema nodosum (EN). In this article, the authors report a biopsy-proven case of SS and EN occurring simultaneously. The authors assert that the concurrent appearance of SS and histopathologically proven EN is rare, because only 11 cases have been reported in the literature reviewed by them.

We would like to make some observations about this assertion. First, to establish the true incidence of the association between SS and EN, it is necessary to consider studies based on patient series and nonisolated case reports, since the latter carry an important bias.
