"Luminaire"

A New Section of the Archives of Dermatology

IN "LUMINAIRE," a word that is defined by Webster as a lighting unit consisting of electric lamps, we have created a metaphor that pays homage to mentorship and a vehicle that captures the essence, passions, and style of living mentors who, through their eminence, serve as an inspiration to others. See this issue of the ARCHIVES for the first "Luminaire" article.

To be considered for "Luminaire," mentors must be nominated by one or more mentees through submission of a completed nomination form (Figure 1 and available at: http://archderm.ama-assn.org/info/auinst.html#Additional). Criteria for selection include (1) distinctive accomplishment(s) by mentor in any field of dermatology; (2) track record by mentor of influencing careers of leaders in dermatology; and (3) willingness by mentor to be featured and to respond to selected questions.
