I read with great interest the recent vignette on the treatment of warts with Candida antigen injection by Phillips et al.¹ In it, the authors mention that injection of warts with Candida antigen has been adopted by some physicians without the support of published studies. However, I am aware of 1 case series published in Japanese by Harada² illustrating the successful treatment of warts with Candida vaccine. Also, Candida intralesional injection immunotherapy of warts was the subject of 2 recent scientific posters at the 58th annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.^3-4 Indeed, there appears to be growing interest among the dermatological community regarding this treatment modality. There are currently 2 ongoing open-label comparison studies involving Candida immunotherapy of warts.^3-4 As Phillips and colleagues suggest, published randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate more rigorously the efficacy of this novel therapeutic approach.
