In Search of Living Frozen Adipocytes?

Kaminer and Omura1 should be congratulated for their superb editorial on the article by Drs Sadick and Hudgins.2 Fat indeed works, and methodological approaches to its application vary from those of individuals who exclusively use frozen fat to those who use only large numbers of small grafts of fresh fat, the latter feeling very strongly that adipocytes will not survive freezing. The issue I take is that if Drs Kaminer and Omura believe they are transplanting living cells from frozen fat, they would find it most difficult to support this position in the literature. They make the statement and support it by using the Guidelines of Care3 and the article by Jackson4 in the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery as their references. The meager scientific nature of Jackson's article would not be considered one that adequately supports frozen fat's survival. The guidelines simply list frozen fat use as an evolving . . .
