A Case of Dermatitis Following Use of a Hair Dye.—Presented by DR. BULKLEY for DR KINGSBURY.

DR. P. A. MORROW said that there was a hair dye containing hydrochlorate of paraphenylene diamin which gave rise to intense dermatitis, sometimes persisting for six or eight weeks after the application.

298,998. OBTAINING BROWN DYES FROM THE AROMATIC DIAMINES. Prosper Monnet, St. Fons, Rhône, France, assignor to the Société P. Monnet et Cie., same place. Filed Jan. 26, 1884. (No specimens.) Claim.—The herein-described method of dyeing materials brown, which consists in saturating the material in a bath composed of chlorhydrate of paraphenylene diamine, or its specified equivalent, sulphuric acid, and water, then wringing, and then treating the material to an oxidizing-bath for developing the color, substantially as set forth.
