The diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) have taken on a new scope in the field of medicine over the past several decades. Demographic changes, the sexual revolution, and the advent of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome have made STDs one of the most prevalent—and sometimes the most devastating—afflictions of our time.
