Commentary on: Interferon alfa therapy for malignant melanoma: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials Lens MB, Dawes M J Clin Oncol. 2002;20:1818-1825
Question: Does adjuvant interferon alfa improve survival after resection of stage I, II, or III malignant melanoma?
Data Sources: Electronic searches of MEDLINE (1966-March 2001), EMBASE (1974-March 2001), and the Controlled Trials Register from the Cochrane Library (issue 4, 2000) using medical subject headings (MeSH) "melanoma" and "interferon alpha." Also, review articles, textbooks, conference proceedings, and discussions with experts in the field were used to identify other published or unpublished data.
Study Selection: Trials were included if they were randomized and controlled and evaluated interferon alfa as adjuvant monotherapy in patients with clinically diagnosed stage I, II, or III cutaneous melanoma.
