I first applied a salicylic acid ointment, but the patient would not adhere to the treatment, removing the application whenever desirable, such as while receiving visitors, or on going out, etc. I then found for her a remedy, mesotan (methyl-oxy-methyl-ester of salicylic acid), with an odor like that of lightning bugs, not at all unpleasant.
