In reply

We read with interest the letter by Kanthraj concerning our research team’s article on telemedical wound care using mobile telephones.1 In the model proposed by Kanthraj, a local health care provider takes digital images of leg ulcers, sends them to a specialized center for automated wound management, and obtains the calculated wound parameters. We agree that this is a challenging concept, which is technically feasible, but we do not agree that this approach is "of vital importance" for telemedical wound care in remote geographic areas.

The parameters mentioned by Kanthraj et al2-3 in their previous publications were wound perimeter and surface area. We agree that these parameters are important, but they do not necessarily have an impact on the management of the case.
