Multiple Pigmented Nodules—Quiz Case

REPORT OF A CASE

A 57-year-old man presented with a 25-year history of nodules that had begun on his chest and later involved his face, shoulders, and back. The number of lesions had increased slowly over several years. The lesions on his face were particularly bothersome, as he found it difficult to shave over them.

The patient had been diagnosed as being seropositive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 9 years earlier. Although he had taken ritonavir and lamivudine for HIV in the past, he was not currently receiving any treatment for his HIV. He also had hypercholesterolemia and hypertension, which were being treated with gemfibrozil and irbesartan, respectively. His dermatologic history included acne, which he had had since his teenage years.
