In this issue of the ARCHIVES, we reintroduce the section known as "On the Horizon" with a redesigned format and purpose. This section evolved from an earlier one known as "Bridging the Laboratory and Clinic" that was written masterfully by Dr Lowell Goldsmith from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. Its aim was to help explain how selected basic research findings had relevance to clinical dermatology. Subsequently, "On the Horizon" first appeared as an occasional editorial review aimed at highlighting a broad range of emerging topics of interest to practicing dermatologists. This section has now been restructured to focus once again on the impact of research findings on clinical dermatology. This new format was initiated in response to requests from practicing dermatologists who have been finding it challenging to keep up with advances in biomedical research in general and advances with specific importance to clinical dermatology in particular.
