REPORT OF A CASE

A 4-month-old African-American girl presented with multiple annular plaques on her scalp, forehead, back, buttocks, right arm, legs, and left sole. Some of the plaques had an erythematous border and a violaceous center (Figure 1); others had scale (Figure 2). The lesions had developed as multiple red papules on the third day of life and had gradually progressed into plaques. The patient was born to a primigravida mother after an uneventful pregnancy. The mother had no medical history. The patient was healthy otherwise and developing normally. She had been treated unsuccessfully with antifungal therapy. A skin biopsy specimen was obtained (Figure 3).
