Prevalence of Skin Diseases and Cutaneous Manifestations Among Iranian Children: A Survey of 1417 Children

Skin conditions vary in frequency and severity in different age groups, different geographical locations, and under different definitions of skin diseases.1-3 The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and pattern of skin conditions among children in Tehran, Iran.

Methods

A cross-sectional skin survey of very young children (aged 3 months to 6 years) and school-aged children (aged 6-14 years) from 23 schools and 7 kindergartens was undertaken from October 2004 to March 2005. Ethical permission was granted by the ethics committee of Shahid Beheshti Medical University, and agreement from the directors of schools as well as written consent from the parents were obtained.
