REPORT OF A CASE

A 55-year-old light-skinned man was incidentally noted to have a brown nodule on his left shin. The nodule did not itch, burn, or hurt, and the patient was not sure how long it had been present. He had no other major medical problems and no personal or family history of skin cancer.

Physical examination revealed a 6-mm, glistening, well-formed, sharply demarcated brown nodule (Figure 1) with a very faint rim of scale around its periphery. There was no crust present. A 6-mm punch biopsy specimen was obtained for histopathologic examination (Figure 2).
