Measuring HRQOL in Patients With Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma Undergoing Therapy With Oral Bexarotene and Extracorporeal Photopheresis

In a prospective pilot study, we investigated whether the combination of Skindex-291-2 and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–General scale (FACT-G)1, 3 provided relevant information during therapy on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) that would not be obtained from clinical assessment of patients with mycosis fungoides and/or Sézary syndrome (MF/SS).

Methods

Informed consent was obtained from 11 adult patients, 5 women and 6 men, with a confirmed diagnosis of MF/SS, evaluated at Boston Medical Center. Demographics, stage of disease, number of prior treatments, percentage of Sézary cells, and CD4/CD8 ratio were recorded. Weighted skin scores,4 pruritus visual analog scale,4 and a patient-completed disease severity score5 were obtained for all patients, as were completed FACT-G (version 4)1, 3 and Skindex-291-2 questionnaires at baseline and at each visit.
