We thank Carli for his comments. In our article, our research group did not claim that information regarding change helps to detect melanoma during its early, inconspicuous period. Our comment was not a claim; it was a conclusion that was reached after careful examination of our data.

Despite its limitations, histopathologic analysis is the gold standard for the diagnosis of melanocytic lesions of the skin. For our group's study, sections of tissue of all melanomas of the Department of Dermatology in Vienna were seen by 2 or even 3 expert dermatopathologists, and only 2 cases were withdrawn because of discordant diagnosis. For this reason, we do not believe that histopathologic discordance is a confounder in our study.
