To the Editor.—

In the September 1969 issue of the ARCHIVES (100:282-285) there is a report on the "Elastotic Nodules of the Antihelix" by Carter, Constantine, and Poole. In 1958¹ we reported on the high incidence of these yellow nodules of the anithelix in the Australian male. A paper on the same subject was presented by us to the Congress of the Italian Dermatological Association in December 1968 and is to be published shortly.²

We were impressed by the hard consistency of these nodules and, studying them on autopsy material, we found that the main changes, of degenerative nature, are localized in the cartilage, although the elastotic changes of the dermis, reported by Carter et al, were also regularly present. In our above mentioned paper² we named the condition gerochondrosis nodularis of the ear. Similar old age changes of the auricular cartilages were reported by previous . . .
