To the Editor.—
Although it is our understanding that mastoid curettes are sharp, we are aware that the blunt side of a Cannon curette may be successfully used for blunt dissection. We have been informed that at least one blunt circular curette has been manufactured for this purpose. We experimented with several shapes and think that our instrument allows a more easily controlled and complete removal.
However, we have no follow-up data on patients treated with dull circular curettes.
