In Reply.—
The comments of Drs Rook and Wilkinson provide valuable insight into the practical problems faced by authors of dermatologic texts and teaching materials. Nevertheless, in the scientific arena, our allegiance must first be to reality and not to practicality.
To maintain international credibility, future authors should avoid such adjectives as "pink" and "salmon-colored," unless specifically applied to white or light skin. Then, of course, an attendant description of the dermatosis in question, as it appears in skin of a darker hue, would be educationally appropriate. We need to tell it as it really is.
