To the Editor.—In the SPECIAL ARTICLE by Price (111:1496, 1975) the author uses the term "Androgenetic Alopecia." As I originated the use of this term in a paper presented to the Joint Meeting of the German and Swiss Dermatological Societies in Zürich in April 1963¹ I am obviously pleased to find that this term has now been used in an English-language paper. I am afraid, however, that some, if not many, readers will not understand the meaning of this term. It is a term proposed to replace male pattern alopecia. To my knowledge, up until the present time the term androgenetic alopecia has only been used in two American papers, one of which is that by Muller.² It is therefore difficult to believe that two papers would be sufficient to familiarize the majority of American dermatologists with a new term for a very old and common clinical entity. . . .
