Recurrent Digital Fibrous Tumor of Childhood. Presented by RALPH J. COSKEY, MD.

This 14-month-old girl was first seen because of skin-colored nodular lesions involving the fourth and fifth toes of the right foot. These were first noted at age 6 months and have increased in size. They were both excised at age 10 months but recurred two months later. A new lesion has appeared in the past month involving the third toe of the same foot.

Histopathologic examination by Dr A. H. Mehregan reports massive proliferation of elongated and spindle-shaped fibroblasts and collagenous tissue forming intersecting bundles. The elastic fibers are absent within the tumor area. Phosphotungstic acid-hematoyxlin stain demonstrates numerous round dense bodies in the cytoplasm of proliferating fibroblasts characteristic of the recurrent digital . . .
