Rassner, of the Department of Dermatology, University of Ulm, West Germany, prepared a colored atlas of dermatology and venerology. The short first part of this atlas offers a condensed description of structure and function of the skin, as well as a brief review of etiology, pathogenesis, and general therapy of dermatoses. The second and largest part contains 221 photographs of important dermatoses, one of acute gonorrhea, and six of syphilis. Each chapter briefly describes symptoms, clinical characteristics, and differential diagnosis of the illustrated diseases.
Illustration 47 shows the early inflammatory stage of acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans. The accompanying text states that the patient remembers previous tick bites and that these parasites probably transmit a yet unknown causative agent. German dermatologists suspect that a tick bite (Ixodes ricinus) may be responsible for the appearance of acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, erythema chronica migrans, and lymphadenosis cutis benigna.
