To the Editor.—

We read with great interest the article entitled "Dermal Melanocyte Hamartoma: A Distinctive New Form of Dermal Melanocytosis" by Burkhart and Gohara in the February 1981 ARCHIVES (117:102-104). It is not uncommon to see darker macules within larger areas (as was observed in this patient) in Mongolian spots as well. This is an interesting case belonging to the dermal melanocytoses and should be followed up for a long period. We would like to know whether the pigmentation and darker macules are persistent.

We have observed two cases, eight years apart, with similar skin changes that we called "extensive Mongolian spots."¹ They showed a slower regression of pigmentation than is commonly seen in Mongolian spots. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
