To the Editor.—

In the spring of 1980,I had the pleasure of participating in a dermatology study tour, which included visits to Manila, the Philippines; Peking, Shanghai, Wusi, and Canton in the People's Republic of China; and Hong Kong. It was a stimulating experience to be among the first group of dermatologists from the United States to visit China in almost 30 years. The medical aspects of the tour were organized and directed by Dr Frank Parker, professor and chairman of the Department of Dermatology of the University of Oregon, Eugene. He successfully combined an arrangement of lectures between American and Chinese physicians, visits to the dermatology wards of several Chinese hospitals, and special presentations from Chinese physicians. In all, there were 27 American dermatologists on the tour, each benefiting from the fascinating exchange of information.
