Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 150 words of the full text PDF and any section headings.

It has been some time since a review of the ARCHIVES' status and its publication policies has been presented. This brief editorial is intended to bring our readers up to date and to survey the editorial content of the journal.

Published manuscripts, received from many parts of the world, still include the principal categories of ORIGINAL CONTRIBUTIONS, CASE REPORTS, SHORT REPORTS, and LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. The use of the term "original contributions" has been justly criticized, since the other classes of manuscripts also record original or educational observations. All manuscripts are unsolicited, except for editorials, review articles, and meeting reports. The LETTERS TO THE EDITOR department ("the customers always write") continues to be a popular section of the ARCHIVES, undoubtedly, in good part, because of frank presentations of differing viewpoints on many subjects, not the least of which are editorial inequities and blunders.
