I agree with Drs Estes and Millman that the patients of Goldstein and Yoon and Gibbs had keratinization disorders similar to what we have recently reported in three cases. Three additional patients in a family of Swiss descent who were living in Argentina were described by Aufgang¹ in 1972. Unfortunately, we missed these reports in our review of the literature.

We believe that our cases and those in the literature represent variants of the same entity, which we also characterized by electron microscopy. The clinical manifestation of our cases was different from the others in that our patients complained of a "raspy feel" of the involved skin, caused by the greater number and smaller size of the hard, hyperkeratotic spikes. In the patients described earlier in the literature, the individual lesions were larger and thicker and, therefore, had a flaccid and cosmetically objectionable character. . . .
