HYTONE® (hydrocortisone) Lotion, Cream, Ointment 2 % and 1% Brief Summary Indications: To relieve inflammatory manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. Contraindications: History of hypersensitivity to any component. Precautions: If irritation develops, discontinue use and institute appropriate therapy. Use appropriate antifungal or antibacterial agent for infection; if favorable response does not occur promptly, discontinue corticosteroid until it does. If extensive areas are treated or if the occlusive technique is used, there will be increased systemic absorption of the corticosteroid, and suitable precautions, particularly with children and infants, should be taken. Long-term animal studies of topical corticosteroids have not been performed to evaluate their carcinogenic potential or their possible effect on fertility. Studies to determine mutagenicity with hydrocortisone have shown negative results. Safe use in pregnancy has not been established. Therefore, topical corticosteroids should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Do not use extensively,
