The article by Garden and Robinson' in this issue of the ARCHIVES succinctly presents a case of cutis verticis gyrata, reviews the literature and classifications of the condition, and discusses the medical and surgical treatment. This condition is most often diagnosed and best treated by the dermatologist who is skilled in dealing with an irritant and odoriferous dermatitis. If the medical treatment is inadequate, the proper surgery can be performed quickly, simply, and inexpensively in a dermatology outpatient surgery facility.

The article by Garden and Robinson also illustrates how techniques that have been designed and developed primarily for cosmetic purposes can be applied successfully to medical conditions. Dermatologists have been in the forefront in the use of scalp reduction techniques for treatment of male pattern alopecia.
