To the Editor.—

I have encountered a 28-year-old female patient who had what appeared to be stigmata. That is, she had circular, bleeding, superficial wounds about 2 cm in diameter at the center of each palm. The injury on the right hand was deeper and more severe than that on the left hand. Rather than reflecting a metaphysical phenomenon, however, these stigmata were the result of a weekend-long binge of playing with her new home video game. The joy stick control unit had first chafed her right and then her left palm. Her husband showed a similar injury but only on the right palm. Both recovered rapidly with abstinence. . . .
