To the Editor.—
After reading the letter by Kürkçüo lu and Atakan1 on the use of metronidazole in the treatment of rosacea, I was so impressed with their results I was tempted to use it in my patients. Fortunately, I checked the Physicians' Desk Reference first and was reminded not only of metronidazole's toxicity but also of its disulfiramlike interaction with alcohol. Patients taking metronidazole must avoid alcoholic beverages during therapy and for at least one day thereafter, lest they suffer abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and flushing.
What was the follow-up of Kürkçüo lu and Atakan's patients? How long did their remission last after the three-week course of metronidazole?
