REPORT OF A CASE

A 37-year-old man presented to the dermatology clinic for evaluation of a solitary nodule that had been present on the dorsum of his right foot for approximately one year. Examination of the lesion revealed an erythematous, soft, somewhat exophytic, nontender nodule that measured 8 x 10 mm (Fig 1). Results of the remainder of the cutaneous examination were normal. The patient's medical history was otherwise unremarkable.

The nodule was excised, fixed in formalin, sectioned, and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. Microscopic examination revealed an intact, atrophic epidermis with overlying hyperkeratosis. The infiltrate of tumor cells formed a poorly demarcated, unencapsulated mass within the dermis that closely abutted but did not invade the epidermis (Fig 2).
